03:03 am - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Great, I had a whole lovely post to my journal and now it's gone. So here goes...
I finished HP 6 yesterday morning at 2:45a EDT. I was absolutely furious with what happened. I thought possibly there was something wrong with me beause I had heard it was a tearjerker but I didn't cry. I was pissed off at what Snape had done.
I started thinking about it though. After all the character buildup would it all be thrown away in this book? I love Snape I wasn't ready to believe that he was PositivelyEvil!Snape. No, no, no! So is he working for the dear departed Dumbledore. I still think he is.
I went to sleep with my mind racing with thoughts about what didn't seem right. I finally drew the conclusion about what was bothering me. In Order of the Phoenix Snape was assigned to teach Harry Occulomency. Why? Because he was the best at it. It occured to me, which I later verified that during the first lessons Snape says to Harry "The Dark Lord almost always knows whens someone is lying to him" (US Hardcover, approx pg 631). Almost always? Almost doesn't cut it. Why would Snape say that? Because he's done it. He's managed to block Voldemort from entering his mind. That's the main issue that was bugging the crap outta me.
In HBP, Chapter 2 "Spinner's End" Snape says that Voldemort is the most powerful Legilimens. Snape is the most powerful Occulomens. That's why DD asked Snape to teach Harry. That's how he was able to answer all of Voldy's questions and not be suspected.
Now about Snape killing Dumbledore. I think he made an Unbreakable Vow to Dumbledore that if it ever came down to it, Snape would have to kill DD. He didn't kill him because he wanted to but because it was what he was obligated to do.
I've never been good at this speculation stuff but I'm not going to give up on Snape and I think somewhere there's enough hints to conclude that Good!Snape exists.
cordelia_v has many good points in her lj entries. She has fleshed out what I could possibly not have said because I stumble over words when I want to say something meaningful. I'm definitely a subscriber to the non-Harry POV. While I like Harry, I really do he gets it wrong over and over. He lets his passions take over before he thinks. Gee, that sounds a lot like

Okay, that's all I have to say about that. I'll continue to peruse the Potter opinions because they're all so interesting but this is the one I truly believe in (Good!Snape).
Lastly, this friday get your bums out to see The Island starring Ewan McGregor. That movie is awesome!
Current Mood: pensive Current Music: actually, watching QVC
